When people need this
Printing a photogrammetry scan, a 3D-scanned object or a mesh reconstructed in MeshLab. Usually the last step of a scan-to-print workflow.
Scans arrive as PLY and printers want STL. The geometry is already there — what has to go is the per-vertex colour and everything else a slicer has no use for.
Thousands of ready models with PBR textures. Free to browse, included in the subscription.

What to check in the result
Scanned meshes are rarely watertight. Converting copies the holes along with everything else — inspect and repair the mesh before sending it to the printer.
